Stop Making It Difficult For People To Visit Your Website!

Today starts a series outlining my business marketing pet-peeves! My pet-peeves are often simple things people don’t do that may cause them to lose a prospect or clients.

Now, I’m not sure how many I have, but we’ll see over the next few months.

=====

You’ve just met someone at an event, and gave them your business card because they may be an ideal client, wanted more information and you said it was on your website, etc.

Your website domain name (URL) is more than one word. Maybe it includes an initial or numbers. You have included it on all your marketing materials.

Let’s look at how it’s written. From my experience, there is a 70% chance, based on all the materials I’ve reviewed for clients that it’s been written.

www.elevatingyourbusiness.com or WWW.ELEVATINGYOURBUSINESS.COM

Now that you know it’s my URL, assume you don’t know me, because you just met me or maybe you’re a new client. Right?

Put yourself in the shoes of a prospect, client, or even a possible strategic alliance partner. As you start looking up the URL online, you place the card near your computer, notepad, laptop, or phone.

First scenario: You start typing the URL and it takes you to some foreign website or an error message. What will you think as a prospect or client? That YOU or THEY made an error. Then you go back again and still type it wrong.

Scenario two: You start typing the URL, then you have to start again, because you lost your place. Because the words and letters are squished together and not clear to review. Maybe you get to the right website, maybe you don’t.

Why take a chance to allow prospects and clients to get it wrong?

What’s a better option? Write your URL in a way that makes it EASY for people to type. How?

Here’s a better way to write your URL on ALL your business collateral such as:
Business cards
Website
Blog
Company fact sheet / brochure
Biographies of staff
Building signage
Email signatures
Promotional materials [like coffee mugs (my favorite to get and keep) and pens (which I consider a waste of money)] Backgrounds for your social marketing sites
All your forms
Presentation slides
Packing or envelope labels
Event badges
Firm postcards, thank you notes

You get the idea. Right?…

It’s such an easy fix!

Write it in words such as: www.ElevatingYourBusiness.com

Such an easy fix for such an essential element of your business, Right?

Now, if you hire a marketing person to write your documents, create your stationary, business cards, etc. INSIST on creating your URL correctly on

ALL your collateral! Because MOST marketing folks won’t do it right the first time, so tell them to clear the error off their ways!
