Hot Racoons

Summer has finally caught up with Washington State. it’s been over 70 degrees, actually in the 90’s and breaking all sorts of records. I took the fans out of the garage today.

If you know any native Washingtonians, I would recommend that you don’t call them until it’s 50 degrees again. I’m sure they’re frying in this heat. You see in Washington it’s usual to see folks in shorts when it hits 50 degrees out side! They start complaining about the heat somewhere near 70 degrees. Surely a funny sight for a New Yorker like me. So this weather is something I’m sure they’d prefer “goes away” – and soon.

It’s even too hot for the raccoons here.

Behind my house there is a wooded lot. I get to see bunnies, raccoons, opossums and an occasional deer. I see or hear the raccoons the most often. Every night I hear 2 or 3 of them walk out of the woods — looking for food or water I presume. But last night I heard a strange noise in the yard. And when I went to go see what was up, there they were tossing back and forth in the grass like they were two little kids rolling down a hill. Then an hour later, they were both sleeping — right out in the open.

I’ve never seen that before but I suppose that it was too hot for them, too!
