Seeking Bookkeeper, Brooklyn NY

JOB SUMMARY:
This position requires a knowledgeable bookkeeper, familiar with QuickBooks desk top edition well, has an understanding of basic accounting principals, is Internet savvy and enjoys a challenge each month. If you prefer consistency in tasks, you’ll find this position too frustrating, so please do not apply.
Position involves bookkeeping with quarterly journal, reconciliation, and quarterly state sales and income taxes, etc. No federal income tax preparation. We are a small business who sells both services and products with sales tax. Average number of hours per month is 3. Add additional hour each quarter, and 2 hours extra is usually needed for year end work. Prefer that you choose your day/hours from Monday through Thursday, any time before 1pm or Friday any time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
— Prepares and posts accounting documents manually or QuickBooks on a Windows Platform such as fees, receipts, invoices, expense accounts, and related operating reports.
— Reconciles banks and Paypal account to QuickBooks files.
— Files and maintains clerical records and reports pertinent information for the owner.
— Prepares quarterly state tax reports.
— Provides owner with monthly P/L and other reports as needed.
— Ability to perform a volume of numerical detail work with speed and accuracy.
— Payroll knowledge helpful but not necessary (we will train).
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent, including courses in bookkeeping.
At least two (2) years’ experience with bookkeeping as your own business.
Has worked at least two years in a corporate environment.
Must have Quickbooks experience to an intermediate level.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Continuing education to keep on top of current trends or to advance yourself.
Performs related duties as assigned.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
1. Ability to effectively present information and respond consistently with the duties of this position to questions from owner.
2. Ability to understand and follow simple and complex oral and written instructions and technical terminology consistent with the duties of this position.
3. Understands process improvement concepts.
4. Able to think outside the box and not judge new ideas.
5. Understands and is knowledgeable in business etiquette around communications with owner.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
1. Ability to notice mathematical patterns and alert the business owner if something interesting is occurring or if numbers seem to be out of line.
2. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations consistent with the duties of this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Upbeat personality.

Knowledge of methods, standards and practices, and standard business practices/methods and procedures.
Ability to work independently with no supervision as a contractor.
Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.

Can prioritize multiple tasks, work under stress, meet deadlines consistently and take direction.
Is never afraid to ask questions or ask for help.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with owner.
Reconciling bank statements down to the penny makes my day.
